Hispanos Unidos, Inc.

Hispanos Unidos, Inc., whose mission is to “Promote the health and well-being of the Latino community and other disenfranchised populations through education, prevention, care, and advocacy,” was the first Latino organization in the State of Connecticut to become involved with the problems generated by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It was founded in 1987 as an organization of education and prevention of HIV/AIDS. Now with two service sites (New Haven and Meriden), Hispanos Unidos' services have expanded to include, mental health, medical case management, medication and treatment adherence, substance abuse counseling, and HIV prevention and health education services as well as a sleep-away camp for children affected by HIV/AIDS. Service delivery is based on a culturally responsive format and is carried out by a fully bilingual and bi-cultural staff.
